When you see the full size panorama of this image it will stop you in your tracks, trust me! The multi photo panorama from Mars Science Lab Curiosity taken on January 27, 2013 (SOL 170) shows the setting sun on Mars, in Yellowknife Bay with Mount Sharp in the distance. The detail in the rocks, the calming effect of the lighting in the atmosphere and the blue hue to the sunset from 141,600,000 miles away is just amazing. These photos we are getting from Mars today bring us a whole lot closer to imagining what it would be like to yourself; one day walk along these former shores of Martian oceans.
The sunset in the photo was added from SOL 176; just a few days later then the rest of the image.
