Here’s a new favorite of mine by Paul Pichugin of the Milky Way galaxy over a gorge in Karijini National Park in Western Australia. What I really love about this photo is how it stretches across the span of the photo from end to end with its bright central bulge and vast dust lanes visible from here on vantage point Earth. Again I know, I know, …..I say it all the time but foreground can break a photo just as easily as it can make one. In this case, everything’s perfectly lit to give you a feel for where you are. The treacherous terrain, some of it wet and soaking the many layers of reddish Earth; light gleaming off its jagged protrusions without taking away from that amazing sky in the least.

Karijini National Park is Australia’s second largest national park and its position in the North Western region of Australia means it’s secluded and free from heavy tourist traffic. The park itself is home to many fantastic gorges, waterfalls, pools and flora.
