LAUNCH ALERT; Sort of…..
NASA’s Morpheus Lander will conduct Free Flight 7 (FF7) and it’s scheduled to commence TODAY at 1915 UTC (1415 EST or 1115 PST) at NASA Kennedy Space Center out at Hazard Field at the north end of the former space shuttle runway. I placed the live streaming feed link below, check it out!
The Morpheus Lander is a vertical take-off and landing vehicle that in the future will be able to land more than 1000lbs. on the surface of the Moon, Mars and possibly beyond to include the landing of astronauts. Morpheus is equipped with the Autonomous Landing and Hazard Avoidance Technology (ALHAT) which will navigate the vehicle upon automated planetary decent.
Free Flight 7 (FF7) objectives are to ascend to an altitude of 142m (465.8 ft.), move down range a predicted 194m (636.4 ft.), 50% increase in translation velocity then and descend onto the marked landing area inside Hazard Field. The entire test should take approximately 75 seconds.
