Here’s another amazing shot of the aurora by Harald Albrightsen.
There’s no doubt it’s been a poor solar maximum for solar cycle 24, but if you live in the right locations there are still plenty of chances to see the aurora borealis and perhaps even capture it in stunning fashion like Mr. Albrightsen did here on January 9, 2014 while in Kvaloya, Tromso, Norway.
Aurora are tricky targets just to view let alone photograph but with patience, planning, practice patience and probably blowing a few great shots before you get it right, you can take amazing photos of them. Admittedly, I haven’t been able to capture any this cycle due to almost constant cloud cover and a minimum level of activity in my location. And as always, Murphy’s Law dictates that any time there have been decent displays this year I’ve been at work……That’s just how it goes in the night sky biz!
