ULA DELTA IV READY TO SERVE THE UNITED STATES MILITARY

LAUNCH ALERT!!!
Late Thursday, February 20th at 2040 EST (0140 on February 21st UTC) from Space Launch Complex-37B (SLC-37B or Slick-37B) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Boeing Delta 4 rocket (Designated Delta 365) flying in its M+4.2 configuration will accelerate out of Earth’s atmosphere carrying the U.S. Military’s GPS IIF-5 satellite. The satellite will serve and protect United States warfighters on land, in the air and at sea. The GPS IIF-5 will also greatly improve performance and accuracy of civilian GPS instruments worldwide.

The Boeing Delta 4 rocket is an expendable 2 stage rocket that will be flying in the MEDIUM + (4,2) configuration and the entire vehicle stands 207 ft. tall.
Delta 4 Rocket Specs & MEDIUM + (4,2) configuration explained……..

Medium = Medium lift capabilities in the Delta 4 family.
5 = Payload fairing (PLF) is 2 shell, 4.1 meters (13.4 ft.) in diameter.
2 = 2 Strap-on solid rocket motors (SRM) attached to the 1st stage produced by Alliant Techsystems. 53 ft. in length, 5 ft. in diameter and burn for approximately 1.5 minutes before being jettisoned at the 100 second mark.

Delta Cryogenic 2nd Stage (DCSS) (2nd Stage) = 39.5 ft. (12m) long and 13.1 ft. (4.0m) in diameter and is powered by a single Aerojet Rocketdyne RL10B-2 engine. It burns cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen that produces 24,750 lb. of thrust.

1st Stage Common Booster Core (CBC) = 133.9 ft. (40.8m) long and 16.7 ft. (5.1m) in diameter and is powered by the Aerojet Rocketdyne RS-68 engine system. Burns cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen and produces 663,000 lb. of thrust at sea level.
