NASA/HDEV DELIVER LIVE STREAMING VIEW OF EARTH FROM THE ISS

Launched on April 18, 2014 on SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft during CRS3 and activated on April 30; NASA’s new High Definition Earth Viewing (HDEV) experiment is now live and operational as of May 1, 2014.
That’s right you can get a look at Earth any time from the new HDEV camera mounted outside the ISS on the Harmony module. Well, almost anytime. Because of the extremely bright sunlight in low earth orbit (LEO) the camera had to be prepared for that so you won’t see anything while the ISS is on the night side of Earth which will be every 90 minutes for about 40 minutes. Otherwise the views from this thing are incredible so go check it out and don’t forget to write to your local government in Washington and tell them to get manned spaceflight and planetary science funding where it needs to be (nicely).
I’d like to see an HD live feed of Earth from the Moon…..It would have to track and zoom of course, and you wouldn’t see anything for about half the month but hey; sounds like a challenge to me NASA!
If you would like to track the ISS or see where it is NOW here’s a page with links I compiled: https://danspace77.com/iss-tracking/
Don’t forget, after all this is an experiment however cool. It’s designed to assess camera quality in the environment of space and capture images of Earth. NASA is working to research and develop cameras that can function at high standards consistently while suffering the extreme radiation found out of the protective coat that our atmosphere provides. This will enable NASA to construct cameras for long duration missions to oh,…….possibly red places?
It’s worth noting that there is another live feed of the ISS that’s been up and running for a few years. It’s simply called “ISS Live Feed” and I’ll post that link below as well.
