This image comes to us from the extremely creative and talented photographer, Shane Michael Black and it was shot in the ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, high in the White Mountains of Inyo County, California. These trees are the oldest living things on Earth and their lifespans can exceed a mind blowing 5000 years old.
However, that’s nothing compared to the age of the sky and the objects therein. Many millions of years pass just for the privilege of being able to look up and see these objects as they were years ago. Some sent their light before you and I were born, some sent their light in the last few hundred centuries as Galileo, Copernicus and the like looked upon them as they were many years before then. And some of those points of light in the sky were sent before humans ever even existed on the planet. All, of those points of light are from right here in our own star city; the Milky Way Galaxy; just one of hundreds of billions. That is a perspective that’s never lost on me and I hope that’s true for all of us.
I truly hope you enjoy this image and please go check out more of Shane’s work and below his links I offer to you the USDA page for this great forest.
