Here are a couple cool illustrations comparing North America to a couple of our most familiar planetary bodies, Mars and the Moon. It’s important to remember that these are both approximations and aren’t meant to be exact as it’s difficult to overlay a reasonably flat North America over a smaller spherical object.
Some numbers to keep in mind as you admire these creations; enjoy!
Seattle to Miami in a straight line is 2,732 mi. or 4,396 km.
Boston to Los Angeles is 2,592 mi. or 4,171 km.
Diameter of the Moon is 2,159 mi. or 3,474 km.
Diameter of Mars is 4,212 mi. or 6,780 km.
Valles Marineris on Mars (the largest canyon in the solar system) is 2,500 mi. or 4,000 km.
