Every time I see this image I can’t help but to hear the voice of the legend, Carl Sagan. “The surface of the Earth, is the shore of the cosmic ocean. On that shore, we’ve learned most of what we know. Recently, we’ve waded a little way out, maybe ankle deep and the water seems inviting. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return.”
This incredible image by Bryan Hansel was, in fact not taken on the shores of any ocean but deep in the United States along the western coast of Lake Superior, Grand Marais, Minnesota. The Earth, for a time, rotates us out of the glare of our host star and opens the window to the universe for all who desire to look up, and reflect on where we all came from.
