Launch Alert! Friday, June 16, 2017 at 09:20 UTC (05:20 EDT) a Chinese Long March 2D rocket, also known as Chang Zheng-2D or CZ-2D will lift off from China’s Jiquan Satellite Launch Center, carrying the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT) to conduct an all-sky survey in X-rays.
This will be the Long March-2D’s 33rd flight since its debut on August 9, 1992.
China’s Long March-2D or Chang Zheng-2D or CZ-2D Rocket: Built by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), a subordinate of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC); the Long March-2D rocket is a light-lift, two-stage rocket standing 41 m (134.7 ft.) tall, 3.35 m (11 ft.) in diameter and is used to deliver small satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Semi-Synchronous Orbit (SSO).
Payload Delivery to Low Earth Orbit (LEO): 3,500 kg (7,700 lb.)
Payload Delivery to Semi-Synchronous Orbit (SSO): 1,300 kg (2,900 lb.)
Payload Fairing: Two-piece composite shell that protects the spacecraft during the turbulence of ascent. Once a safe altitude is reached, the fairing is jettisoned, exposing the spacecraft.
Second Stage: The second stage is 10.9 m (35 ft. 9 in.) in length, 3.35 m (11 ft.) in diameter and is powered by a single YF-24C engine that burns dinitrogen tetroxide (N204) as fuel and unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) as oxidizer.
First Stage: The first stage is 27.9 m (91 ft. 6 in.) in length, 3.35 m (11 ft.) in diameter and is powered by four YF-21C engines that burns dinitrogen tetroxide (N204) as fuel and unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) as oxidizer.
